Myofascial release and palpatory assessment with Alex Fugallo

Regent's College, London
The course begins with the anatomy and physiology of fascia, its importance and how we may affect it through our techniques. I discuss the different approaches to myofascial release techniques; I demonstrate my preferred technique and the effectiveness of this approach. Students are given the opportunity to practise release techniques, to familiarise themselves with the basics of the method. I explain the evolution of my approach through various myofascial and osteopathic methods to the point where I use a palpation based system to determine where and how to apply techniques. Students are walked through this approach in order to develop their touch sensitivity, their ability to palpate and locate fascial tension, and to relate it to postural and articular dysfunction. This fascial tension is then treated with the myofascial technique learnt earlier. A level 5 massage qualification is required to apply. Testimonial: "Alex Fugallo’s Myofascial Release CPD course is one of the most useful and impactful CPD courses I have undertaken. I use the soft tissue techniques I learnt from Alex on a daily basis in my practice. Alex conveys the key facts in a precise and easy follow format that mean you leave the course up and running, confident to use your new soft tissue skills. It is not just the value that the myofascial technique adds to your skill set, it is the enhanced diagnostics that increased my confidence as a soft tissue therapist to hone in on dysfunctional tissue, as well as when it is appropriate to refer on. Great value for money, really confidence building and I guarantee you will be using the approaches every day. Thank you Alex, a really worth your time CPD!" About Alex: An international sprinter from the age of 16, my interest in sports healthcare began after numerous athletic injuries. I began training at the London School of Sports Massage in 1989 while studying for a degree in law at Brunel University. Although I received my law degree I realised that my true passion lay in understanding and treating the human body and therefore embarked on a second degree at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine graduating in 1997. Since 1997 I have run my own practice in North West London. In 2010 I co-founded of Beyond Health in Fulham where I also work. As well as 33 years clinical experience I have taught on the MSc at the British College of Osteopathic Medicine for 25 years. I also lecturer internationally for the Barral Institute on their Neural curriculum, teach for the London School of Sports Massage and run my own advanced courses. I have a wealth of experience in the diagnosis of musculoskeletal problems and I am dedicated to providing high quality and innovative treatment. Colleagues frequently refer patients with complex musculoskeletal problems to me. My passion for learning and the desire to be at the cutting edge of my chosen field, as well as my special interest in elite sport, has led to me consulting for UK Athletics, West Ham FC, Saracens RFC as well as working on the ATP tennis tour and at the Paralympic Games. I still train evaluating new ideas and approaches, which inform my practice. Course fee £120, the full fee must be paid on application.
